mod_vhost_alias doesn't operate with a DocumentRoot variable, so mod_rewrite
can't strip the DocumentRoot /www/hosts/test/www from the per-dir prefix
/www/hosts/test/www/rewrite/ automatically. That is not a bug, it's normal
behaviour. Have a look into your RewriteLog.

That's why you must use either an URL-path in the substitution or the
RewriteBase directive telling mod_rwrite the URL-path to the directory where the
.htaccess file is located.
