Well didn't need to add the patch. I was goofing around last night, checking 
out the strace that I generated and compared it to a strace of a gcc rolled rpm 
of Apache. I noticed that the Compaq C [ccc] binaries were hanging at 
libpthread.so and not loading any additional libs...

I reinstalled GLIBC-2.3.2 and then recompiled Apache and everything worked 
fine. I seemed that, possibly, the libpthread.[so.a] were pointing to the wrong 
locations [miss linked].

Apache is running like a top... thanks all. I should have posted the solution 
last night but it was late and my main thoughts were, "hitting the sack".
