Summary: Apache 2 build with --disable-shared and DSO support.
           Product: Apache httpd-2.0
           Version: 2.0.53
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: Build
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: mark@pdx.edu

I have ran into a problem with building apache 2 and using --disable-shared and
--enable-so options. Apache 1.3 and other software when using --disable-shared
mean to just link the binaries from the package to static libraries if possible
and build static libraries for the packages libraries, libapr in apache 2's case.

The problem I am having is that using disable-shared sets
"build_libtool_libs=no" in the $prefix/share/apache2/build/libtool of apache. So
when I use apxs it ends up building a mod_modulename.a instead of
mod_modulename.so. My temporary workaround is to just edit the libtool and set
all ^build_libtool_libs=no to ^build_libtool_libs=yes after building apache 2.
Not sure if this is the correct solution, but it allows me to build apache 2
modules with the mod_modulename.so. I am getting this result on Solaris 9 and
Redhat Enterprise 3. I assume that this problem is on all platforms.

Apache 1.3 had no problems with building shared modules if compiled with
--disable-shared. Maybe this is the way the apache 2 developers want, but seems
like a bug to me.
