But, it was decided that having a frozen web server is better than exiting cleanly with an error message, so bug 17898 was marked as wontfix. Therefore this bug is an enhancement? There needs to be a way to poll Apache and determine authoritatively whether or not it is in this frozen state. This will then allow users to do automated logging, restarts, or other notification, as they see fit.
