Is there any reason we can't just force os_version to something sane (say 499)
when we see 4.10-RELEASE (or anything higher than 4.9)?

The only thing os_version is used for on FreeBSD is to detect the presence of
sendfile, and that's just looking for 'newer than 4.1.0', so as long as we're
newer than that the exact value we use for 4.10-RELEASE doesn't seem to matter
all that much.
