------- Additional Comments From trawick@apache.org 2004-11-15 21:02 -------
This backtrace:

#0 0x2835d74f in flock () from /lib/libc.so.5
#1 0x282da0f6 in proc_mutex_flock_acquire () from
/usr/local/lib/apache2/libapr-0.so.9
#2 0x282da462 in apr_proc_mutex_lock () from /usr/local/lib/apache2/libapr-0.so.9
#3 0x080d3d93 in accept_mutex_on ()
#4 0x080d47e8 in child_main ()
#5 0x080d4afd in make_child ()
#6 0x080d4d58 in perform_idle_server_maintenance ()
#7 0x080d51cd in ap_mpm_run ()
#8 0x080dbc73 in main ()

is normal backtrace for an idle child process, and Apache is not at the
MaxClients level when the backtrace looks like this.

At the point where Apache stops serving requests, gather the same backtrace data
again and post here.
