This is entirely an OpenSSL issue; mod_ssl just uses the X509_oneline function
to generate the _DN variables.

IIRC, the change was between 0.9.6 and 0.9.7 where the short name for surname
changed from "SN" to "S", because SN clashed with serialName I think.  There's
not much mod_ssl can/should do about this either way.
