Can you get a backtrace?  Add "CoredumpDirectory /var/tmp" to your httpd.conf, and:

# ulimit -c unlimited
# bin/apachectl start

then attach to this bug report the output of the following command:

# gdb bin/httpd /var/tmp/core.<xxxxx>
...
(gdb) backtrace

for one of the core files produced.
