Looking at the code, it seems mod_ldap supports LDAP/TLS instead of LDAP/SSL.

If the LDAPTrustedCA directive is present, mod_ldap will attempt to connect
securely by using TLS. Details at http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/mod/mod_ldap.html

Supporting LDAP/SSL would also be useful, but the above could work around your
problem for now.
