Issues with IE viewing gzipped content.

Summary: Issues with IE viewing gzipped content.
           Product: Apache httpd-2.0
           Version: 2.0.49
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Minor
          Priority: Other
         Component: mod_deflate
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: kieran@digital-crocus.com
                CC: kieran@digital-crocus.com

I've received a number of complaints from customers at my hosting company that
ZIP and PDF files are failing to open correctly in IE. I've traced this
problem to mod_deflate - it appears that the latest version of IE fails to
open gzipped ZIP and PDF content. I'm not sure if this problem is with IE or
mod_deflate, but either way adding the following line to my httpd.conf
resolved the problem:
SetEnvIfNoCase Request_URI \.(?:gif|jpe?g|png|zip|pdf)$ no-gzip dont-vary

This is perhaps worth investigation, if only to note the bug in IE in
mod_deflate's documentation and suggesting a workaround as above.
