          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: FreeBSD

          Severity: Normal
          Priority: Other
         Component: core
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: bp@hipoxia.com

Hello Apache Foundation.

I've checked the bugzilla, and searched the net for the following issue, though
finding no answers. Perhaps I'm just a crappy googler(?).

Anyways, the issue is, that doing an apachectl configtest reports if there's a
syntax error, and not if paths to logfiles are bogus:

% > apachectl graceful
/usr/local/sbin/apachectl graceful: httpd gracefully restarted
% >

This leaves the httpd daemon down.
This has also been tested on Apache 2.0.49.

To fix this, I've made a perl script which checks both syntax and logfile path,
before doing apahcectl graceful.
If an error occurs I'm emailed about it, telling me what line there's a path
error or syntax error.

So my question/suggestion goes to add a check on logfile paths (not emaling as
a primary thing).

I can't be the only person with this problem?

Keep the project rolling :)
