cannot read files from smbfs directory

Summary: cannot read files from smbfs directory
           Product: Apache httpd-2.0
           Version: 2.0.47
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: FreeBSD
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Blocker
          Priority: Other
         Component: Core
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: pvtrifonov@front.ru

Windows XP box has a shared folder with some files.
FreeBSD 4.7 box mounts this share as /mnt/library. All FreeBSD users can read
files from this mounted directory perfectly.

There is a symlink from the Apache DocumentRoot directory to this directlry,
that is .../htdocs/papers points to /mnt/library.
If brouser (IE from windows box) is pointed to the appropriate URL, the
contents of this directory is listed, but if one tries to download a file
larger than 255 bytes, zero-sized file is downloaded. Small files are
downloaded without problems.
The following messages are logged in error_log after unsuccessfull downloads:
[info] (45)Operation not supported: core_output_filter: writing data to the
network

Files located in other places under DocumentRoot (i.e. not on the windows share)
are downloaded perfectly
