The "SCO 3" failure is pretty catastrophic, doesn't look like an easy workaround
there:

ld crtbegin.o: -L path too
long(/tmp_mnt/ilx/pvcs_src/apache/httpd-2.0.46/srclib/apr-util/xml/expat/lib)

It's not clear how the SCO 5 build actually failed; can you post how you invoked
configure, and the attach complete output (stdout and stderr) from the configure
run.
