A fix was committed to APR.  It is the same as the last patch mentioned,
other than a comment change.  There is also a new testcase in the APR
test suite to catch such a problem (at least on systems with large pipe buf
and/or limited numbers of "messages" stashable in the kernel).

This will be in the next Apache httpd 2.0.x release.
