ProxyPass does not work with persistent connections

Summary: ProxyPass does not work with persistent connections
           Product: Apache httpd-2.0
           Version: HEAD
          Platform: Sun
        OS/Version: Solaris
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Major
          Priority: Other
         Component: mod_proxy
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: apache-bugzilla@sabi.net

I've got a line in my httpd.conf like this:

ProxyPass /wiki/ http://127.0.0.1:8080/

If I have the server set to accept persistent connections (Connection:
Keep-alive), then the client can make one request and receive a successful
response. Thereafter, the server does not respond, or if it does, it responds
in an extremely delayed fashion with garbage characters introduced to the
client. Accessing the server without the ProxyPass works fine.

The server behind the proxy is based on Medusa
(http://www.amk.ca/python/code/medusa.html). This server works fine behind
Apache 1.3.27.
