Invalid HTML in directory listing

Summary: Invalid HTML in directory listing
           Product: Apache httpd-2.0
           Version: 2.0.42
          Platform: PC
               URL: http://irancy.lis.inpg.fr:81/~laurent/
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Normal
          Priority: Other
         Component: mod_dir
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: Laurent.Bonnaud@inpg.fr

Hi,

I use the standard apache directory listing as part of a website, and I use the
wdg-html-validator in spider mode to check the whole site. Unfortunately
apache directory listing is not valid according to this validator (and to
validator.w3.org, too). This is annoying since it produces a lot a error
messages in the validator output.

For instance, you can see what I mean here:

http://irancy.lis.inpg.fr/cgi-bin/validate.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Firancy.lis.inpg.fr%3A81%2F%7Elaurent%2F&input=yes&warnings=yes

Apache uses HTML 3.2 header which is strange given that its HTML code contains
XHTMLish "short tags".
