the initial call to accept is blocking on the request. a temporary patch I made 
which is working for me is to change the socket to non-blocking just before the 
accept and then switch it back to blocking after the accept call, I have seen a 
couple of error messages generated that report that the accept would have 
blocked. The server now appears to be stable.
