I see that you did "make distclean" and "configure" after applying the patch,
but you really have to do the extra steps I outlined previously:

make extraclean
./buildconf
./configure whatever-options
make
...

Changes to any .m4 files and some .in files are not picked up unless you 
do "make extraclean" and "./buildconf".  Sorry!

I really appreciate your perseverance.  I'm afraid that I don't have access to 
an HP 10.20 box myself so you get to be the hero for the 10.20 users out
there and help us get this resolved so that it builds out of the box.
