httpd leaves zombie cgi processes

Summary: httpd leaves zombie cgi processes
           Product: Apache httpd-2.0
           Version: 2.0.36
          Platform: Macintosh
        OS/Version: MacOS X
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Major
          Priority: Other
         Component: Core
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: afaby@tenon.com

When executing CGI scripts (shell or perl), the httpd daemon leaves
a zombie perl or sh process for each cgi that has been executed. I
have not tested any cgi programs written in any compiled languages.

I am using the worker MPM module, and nothing appears in the error
log. Restarting the daemon will release the zombie processes, which
is not a very desirable workaround.

This has been reproduced by other engineers, and this problem also
existed with 2.0.35. We are using Mac OS X 10.1.3, and 10.1.4, and
doesn't seem specific to any particular version of the operating
system.

Here is 'ps ax' output:

 3857 con- Z 0:00.00 (perl)
 3858 con- Z 0:00.00 (perl)
 3861 con- Z 0:00.00 (perl)
