Right- and I think that's why your tests are broken.
It should point your current library in src/.libs/ instead.
I suggest trying Randy's idea to preload the correct 
libapreq2 at startup.  It may not help, but it's the
only solution I can think of that doesn't involve true
OS X expertise (which we don't seem to have).
