Right. I wasn't aware of that, but it is crucially important for my code (which
admittedly very Apache2/C centric) for this to be the case. Otherwise,
everything falls apart...

So, whatever change contributes to complete thread safety, I'm all for it. I'm
also not concerned with API changes in terms of backwards compatiblity, because
I can change all my code easily. In other words, although my vote doesn't count,
you have it :-)
