I honestly don't know, but maybe this will answer the question for you:

geertz% locate libapreq.a
/usr/local/lib/libapreq.a
/usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.2/darwin-2level/auto/libapreq/ 
libapreq.a
/usr/local/src/libapreq-1.3/blib/arch/auto/libapreq/libapreq.a
/usr/local/src/libapreq-1.3/c/.libs/libapreq.a
geertz% locate libapreq.so
geertz% locate libapreq.dylib
/usr/local/lib/libapreq.dylib
/usr/local/src/libapreq-1.3/c/.libs/libapreq.dylib
