The below change in configuration parameter in hive-site.xml fixed the issue

 <name>hive.metastore.schema.verification</name>
  <value>false</value>
   <description>

It was TRUE earlier later i changed it to False.
Not sure if its an issue with Hive or expected behaviour

Even ,when i tried to start metastore following error popped up


MetaException(message:Version information not found in metastore. )
        at org.apache.hadoop.hive.metastore.ObjectStore.checkSchema(ObjectStore.java:5638)
