I agree with [~pvary] that this should be in:

{code:java}standalone-metastore/benchmarks{code}

I see that you've built your own framework for the benchmarks, instead of using jmh, which
seems excessive.

I guess my biggest concern is determining the goal of this jira. What are you trying to measure?

* the rpc costs? 
* the cost of the methods on the server?

Micro-benchmarks do best when they have a relatively limited scope or are comparing alternatives
(thrift vs http rpc).
