I've tried to look into this before, but could never find a root cause. As far as I know nothing
is cleaning up /tmp/ on the ptest machines. Maybe some other unit test is clearing the /tmp/
directory, or maybe ptest is cleaning it up. Regardless, we have seen lots of issues with
writing tmp files to /tmp/, the fix has always been to configure the test to not write to
/tmp/.
