Peter Vary commented on HIVE-14415:
-----------------------------------

Hi Zoltan,

Yesterday I was able to run the tests from Intellij after some runs. The problem is solved
"magically" which means that I was not able to identify the problem yet, when it started to
run, :) but maybe there was something to do about which project I opened (itest or qtest)
After that I focused on the review. I hope to get back to it soon, but travelling is on the
way.

Do you have anything in your mind how could we split the work?

For the long term I have some ideas about testing, which are up for discussion:
- BeeLine is the official client now, it might be a good idea to switch to it instead of using
the old cli
- BeeLine tests could run parallel. Of course it introduces another uncertainty to the tests,
but depending on the infrastructure it could be a huge time saving

In the end, I open for any idea which improves the reliability and the speed of the tests.

Thanks,
Peter

> I would like to upgrade the current maven+ant+velocimacro+junit4 qtest generation&execution
framework to use only junit4 - while (trying) to keep all the existing features it provides.
> What I can't really do with the current one: execute easily a single qtests from an IDE
(as a matter of fact I can...but it's way too complicated; after this it won't be a cake-walk
either...but it will be a step closer ;)
> I think this change will make it more clear how these tests are configured and executed.
> I will do this in two phases, currently i will only change {{TestPerfCliDriver}}.
