I wonder if this should catch all the exceptions, not just IO:
{noformat}
try {
        OrcFile.createReader(file.getPath(),
            OrcFile.readerOptions(conf).filesystem(fs));
      } catch (IOException e) {
        return false;
      }
{noformat}?
The exception from trying to read a corrupted file (from ORC perspective) is expected.
