Subject [jira] [Created] (HIVE-14401) Possibility to define database specific S3 parameters
Date Tue, 02 Aug 2016 08:40:20 GMT
Sampsa Tuokko created HIVE-14401:
------------------------------------

Summary: Possibility to define database specific S3 parameters
                 Key: HIVE-14401
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HIVE-14401
             Project: Hive
          Issue Type: New Feature
          Components: Beeline, Metastore
            Reporter: Sampsa Tuokko

Currently you can configure your S3 parameters (endpoint, access key, secret key) e.g. in
core-site.xml. Apparently it should be possible to set these with SET command from your client
as well, but at least I was not able to get it working with beeline.

Hive allows "use database" to separate data, but as far as I can tell it's currently not possible
to define database specific S3 parameters.

When you use S3 as a data source, it would be good if different users working on different
databases could use different S3 buckets (with different endpoints & credentials).
