Some trouble I met:

1. downloaded source and build Hive with -Pdist.
2. try to run Hive CLI and get the following error:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.RuntimeException: Hive metastore database is not initialized.
Please use schematool (e.g. ./schematool -initSchema -dbType ...) to create the schema. If
needed, don't forget to include the option to auto-create the underlying database in your
JDBC connection string (e.g. ?createDatabaseIfNotExist=true for mysql)

Is this expected? This used to work out of box with embedded metastore created automatcially.

FYI the URL for the candidate returns 404, the correct URL is

+1, checks signatures, did a build with a brand new maven repo, and ran a quick smoke test.
