Subject [jira] [Commented] (HIVE-7671) What happened to HCatalog?
Date Sat, 09 Aug 2014 23:00:12 GMT

Lefty Leverenz commented on HIVE-7671:

Where did you expect to find it on the Hive website? Perhaps we should add it to the menu
in a noticeable place.

If you look in the latest Javadocs, HCatalog packages are prominently displayed. In previous
releases, though, they seem to be missing -- the package org.apache.hive.hcatalog is empty
in the 0.12.0 Javadocs. The obsolete package org.apache.hcatalog is also empty.

The Hive wiki home page has a major section for HCatalog and WebHCat documentation. The introduction
also links to the HCatalog and WebHCat documentation.

> According to the Incubator website, HCatalog graduated to become part of Hive in Feb
2013, yet I could find no references to HCatalog on the Hive website, and there are still
downloads on the Incubator mirrors:
> The Incubator HCatalog website redirects to Hive, so it would help if there were some
mention of what happened to it.
> Also if the HCatalog downloads are no longer relevant, they should be deleted from the
incubator mirror.
> They will continue to be available from the archives website if there is a need to keep
links to them for historic purposes:
