Hi Carter,

HIVE-4629 as actually been re-written, by Dong, with a much better design before your comment
was posted. I feel that building on that API which takes into account the design considerations
suggested on that JIRA is a better idea since it's consistent with the Hive CLI and supports
both MR1 and YARN. I do agree that the old version of the patch was too verbose since the
log requests themselves were logged which was quite annoying.

Writing to standard error makes complete sense and is consistent with most DB command line
tools.
