MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-JIRA-FingerPrint: 30527f35849b9dde25b450d4833f0394 Mithun Radhakrishnan created HIVE-6392: ------------------------------------------ Summary: Hive (and HCatalog) don't allow super-users to add partitions to tables. Key: HIVE-6392 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HIVE-6392 Project: Hive Issue Type: Bug Components: Authorization Affects Versions: 0.12.0, 0.13.0 Reporter: Mithun Radhakrishnan Assignee: Mithun Radhakrishnan HDFS allows for users to be added to a "supergroup" (identified by the "dfs.permissions.superusergroup" key in hdfs-site.xml). Users in this group are allowed to modify HDFS contents regardless of the path's ogw permissions. However, Hive's StorageBasedAuthProvider disallows such a superuser from adding partitions to any table that doesn't explicitly grant write permissions to said superuser. This causes the odd scenario where the superuser writes data to a partition-directory (under the table's path), but can't register the appropriate partition. I have a patch that brings the Metastore's behaviour in line with what the HDFS allows. -- This message was sent by Atlassian JIRA (v6.1.5#6160)
