Subject [jira] [Commented] (HIVE-4873) Sort candidate functions in case of UDFArgumentException
Date Thu, 18 Jul 2013 04:20:50 GMT

Edward Capriolo commented on HIVE-4873:

Good catch. The ordering of reflection is not deterministic even between JVM (its not just
a 1.7 problem, different 1.6 jvms have similar issues)

> When Hive provides a list of candidate functions in case of UDFArgumentException such
as for the following query:
> {code}
> create table tbl (a binary);
> select cast (a as tinyint) from tbl limit 1;
> {code}
> the list is not sorted, so the output is not deterministic. Also, we have many test cases
depending on the ordering. Thus, it's good to sort the list before emitting it.
> This should fixes quite a few test case failures when Hive runs in JDK7.
