Please have a look at the patch on HBASE-8438. It should be sufficient for our needs. Consumption
of it in the hive launch script would look something like

HBASE_CLASSPATH="$HADOOP_CLASSPATH:$(hbase classpath)"
HADOOP_CLASSPATH="$(hbase classpath-min $HBASE_CLASSPATH)"
