There is almost no difference between tunneled and non-tunneled connections as far as SSL
layering is concerned.The #connectSocket method passes control over to #createLayeredSocket
method in the normal execution flow. If a custom SSLSocket instance is passed to #connectSocket
it is assumed to be fully initialized already and no SSL configuration is applied to it. 

Does this make sense?
