Subject [jira] [Created] (HTTPCLIENT-1227) DateUtils parsing triggers ParseExceptions
Date Wed, 29 Aug 2012 16:24:08 GMT
Patrick Linskey created HTTPCLIENT-1227:

             Summary: DateUtils parsing triggers ParseExceptions
                 Key: HTTPCLIENT-1227
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HTTPCLIENT-1227
             Project: HttpComponents HttpClient
          Issue Type: Improvement
    Affects Versions: 4.2.1, 4.1.3, 4.2.2, 4.3 Final
            Reporter: Patrick Linskey

DateUtils.DEFAULT_PATTERNS is not in the same order as the HTTP header spec [1], and uses
a SimpleDateFormat.parse() method that creates exceptions. The upshot is that in the common
case, extra parsing must happen, and an exception must be created (and its stack must be filled
in). This leads to unfortunate additional CPU overhead.
