Note that there also has been an Apache Lab, Monsoon, recently started to do this, see  http://labs.apache.org/labs.html.
I know Florian and he's chatted to me about Monsoon and the possibilities of it ending up
as an HttpComponents sub project. Sounds like the two of you should get together.
