In the case you will use a different parser for comma separated header, there should be a mechanism to select the correct parser for each examined header at the level of AbstractMessageParser or some subclasses. This sounds to me complicated, perhaps my knowledge about http core internals is not so heavy. If this is a simple problem, then the typed iterators way is the cleaner, else the other is trivial and immediately usable.
