Hi Oleg,

I think this bug report is invalid. Even though run() is synchronized,
it calls this.wait(...) on a regular basis and Object.wait() releases
the lock on the object for the time the thread is blocked. A call to
shutdown() will therefore be delayed only until the thread waits the
next time.

The patch does improve the code and follows the shutdown pattern
suggested by JDK JavaDocs as a replacement for Thread.stop().
But does it have to go into 3.0?
