Thanks a lot.

httpConnectionManager.setParams(httpConnectionManagerParams);

does the trick. As for 

hostConfiguration.setHost("localhost", 8080);

it seems to work fine even without it. In the real app I don't know to which 
host I'm going to connect, but I know that I have to use a certain proxy and 
local address. That's why I try to use

		HostConfiguration hostConfiguration = new HostConfiguration();
	
		hostConfiguration.setProxyHost(proxyHost);
		hostConfiguration.setLocalAddress(localAddress);
	
		httpClient.setHostConfiguration(hostConfiguration);

I could set the parameters for the ANY host configuration, but that might 
affect other managers which should use other http proxies. I guess what I need 
is not possible as some separate ProxyConfiguration/LocalAddressConfiguration 
config classes might be necessary but please correct me if I'm wrong.
