That would be fine by me, my main concern is that this should *not* be
public for any final release.  The reality is that I should have spent more

While clients should not be using this class directly, we are at a point 
now that we can't just rip stuff out of the public interface.  How about 
we deprecate this class for a few intermediate builds and then make it 
package access before we do a release candidate?

Note to self: I feel like I'm turning into a deprecation nazi.
