Also looking at the code (with offset, as in Hadoop and HBase) I wonder how efficient it is
to call unsafe.getLong on an unaligned address (i.e. passing 1-7 as offset).
Would it perhaps be better to read the first few bytes (if not aligned) and then switch to
8 bytes processing once we reach an aligned address?
