The code is in our code base but we haven't used it seriously yet. The production needs this
feature has not fully upgraded to our internal 0.98 version yet.

And I think this feature does not break anything so we can still integrate it in later 2.x
and 1.x releases.

So maybe move this issue out of the parent issue and leave it open, I will pick it up if we
have enough experience. And then the parent issue could be resolved.
