Subject [jira] [Commented] (HBASE-17527) Allow IntegrationTestBigLinkedList table to be in memory compacted
Date Wed, 25 Jan 2017 17:28:26 GMT

Josh Elser commented on HBASE-17527:

bq. making it so you can set policy with commands to ITBLL (only!) is just short-sighted.
We have a swath of IT jobs. I have to go edit each of those individually to do as here if
I want to test inmemory options as is done here

That's a good point.

bq. Even if it were to be off by default – we want it to be on by default

Suggestions on how you'd expect to see this controlled by users, [~stack]? Thinking something
like a Java system property? e.g. {{-Dhbase.compaction.policy=MEMORY}} would be a "hidden"
developer hook that could affect all instances of HTD/HCD? Obviously, we're making this for
our benefit, not the users'.

bq. Once we have enough confidence, in memory compaction can be turned on by default.

Also to Stack's point, having confidence in the ITs running with this option would be nice.

compaction scheme.
> This JIRA is to add support for specifying different in memory compaction policies.
