Subject [jira] [Commented] (HBASE-17379) Lack of synchronization in CompactionPipeline#getScanners()
Date Mon, 02 Jan 2017 13:32:58 GMT

Eshcar Hillel commented on HBASE-17379:
---------------------------------------

The current implementation of a compacting memstore only flushes the tail of the pipeline
and not the entire content of the memstore, so the sequence id in the WAL mapping needs to
be updated and not removed.
HBASE-17081 pushes the entire pipeline to a composite snapshot. This is planed to become the
default flush behavior.
We plan to play with this possibilities in different policies and test performance in the
context of HBASE-16417.

> The cause is in CompactionPipeline#getScanners() where there is no synchronization around
iterating pipeline.
> The code causing ConcurrentModificationException:
> {code}
>     for (Segment segment : this.pipeline) {
> {code}
> was introduced by HBASE-17081
