Let me break up this patch. Fixing performance is predicated first on reorder of the write
pipeline. Let me get that in first. It looks like that might be enough for this issue but
to be proven with tooling that is yet to be written (see sibling issue of this one).  See
HBASE-15158 for write path reordering. Will be back here after that goes in.
