Ashish Singhi commented on HBASE-9393:
--------------------------------------

Thanks for comment, Ted.

Yes, the unbuffer api does not throw any exception this I just added to be on defensive side
as I mentioned in the comment. Intention behind the try-catch block was, because of this unbuffer
call if some error like NoSuchMethodError or e.t.c is thrown we should not let the thread
die.
Intention of not logging it at WARN/ERROR level was, user can neither do anything here nor
we can and to avoid user getting panicked about this. This socket will be auto closed by HDFS
client when there is a next read operation on this stream.

Anyways the call on logging level is up to the reviewer. The above was my just my thinking
behind having the log at DEBUG level.

> HBase dose not close a dead connection with the datanode.
> This resulting in over 60K CLOSE_WAIT and at some point HBase can not connect to the
datanode because too many mapped sockets from one host to another on the same port.
> The example below is with low CLOSE_WAIT count because we had to restart hbase to solve
the porblem, later in time it will incease to 60-100K sockets on CLOSE_WAIT
> [root@hd2-region3 ~]# netstat -nap |grep CLOSE_WAIT |grep 21592 |wc -l
