Why does a fundamental Type -- i.e. Table -- reach down into a specialized package, 'filter',
to obtain the type for compare. Seems broke. The Table Interface has no dependency on filter

Which of the list of subclasses makes sense in these new operations? All?

Should the newly opened up constructor be marked as private since it is for internal use only,
