It is very hard to quantify GC cost. A run might finish very quickly, but generate a lot of
garbage that is collected later, slowing things down then.
Let's get numbers so that we do not have to guess what we should do :)
I'll double check my 0.98 patch and test run (I don't see how the patch would make things
slower, so there must something I am not doing right).
