+1 on this carried over from RB.  Minor question up on RB. This is great. How does it relate
to HBASE-7781?  Is the TestShell failure related at all (It may be "    Revert "HBASE-12867
Add ability to specify custom replication endpoint to add_peer""...I had to revert form branch-1.0).
